The purpose of the module is to examine the relationship between cultural beliefs and health behaviors of indigenous populations. Cultural perspectives of Native Hawaiians, Micronesians, First Nation, and Native American Navajo are explored in the module.

Objectives

At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Describe the factors that are crucial to the health of indigenous populations such as the importance of nature’s balance, harmony, and indigenous identity.
  • Explain recurrent motifs of history and the ways they have changed or remained the same.
  • Analyze the shared commonalities that contribute to the health disparities of indigenous populations.
