The founder of nursing, Florence Nightingale, made the connection in 1894 between the importance of good child care to build health. She stated, “Money would be better spent in maintaining health in infancy and childhood than building hospitals to alleviate disease. It is much cheaper to promote health than to maintain people in sickness.”
These stories from the community provided some examples of how we can work to increase opportunities to promote health and to make good health available to all. An important factor is to understand where people come from, their Sense of Place. We welcome you on this journey to continue to listen and learn from communities to help build a Culture of Health through a sense of place.
