Overview

For many reasons, women and children are more vulnerable to consequences of adverse events in the social, economic, political and physical environment environment in most countries across the world.  Understanding their special needs and unique vulnerabilities is important for effective health planning.

Purpose

This module is intended to provide you with an overview of women’s health issues highlighting their unique vulnerabilities on a local, national and global level.

Objectives

At the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term women’s health
  • Describe key facts that chronicle women's health during the past 100 years in the US and Hawaii
  • Discuss international, national and local initiatives and programs that aim to support women’s health
  • Analyze the relationship between women’s and children’s health
