Levels of Health Disparities – Potential Points to Improve Health
Braverman (2009) modified a figure conceptualized by Diderichsen that illustrates how health disparities are created, sustained or compounded over a lifetime and across generations. Social stratification or inequality results in some groups having a differential exposure to health hazards or health-promoting factors. It provides a cycle of social disadvantage that can produce health damages, or social advantages that can produce health benefits across an individual’s life or across generations.
