Maternal & Infant Survival
There is a documented significant inverse correlation between the knowledge and skill of birth attendants and maternal and newborn mortality. In countries where there are skilled health professionals providing pregnancy and newborn care, the rates of maternal and newborn deaths are low. However, the opposite is evident in those countries where maternal-newborn care is provided by less knowledgeable, and skilled providers.
