Children’s Health in the U.S. – Part 1


Social Environment

In 2014:

  • 21% of children born in the U.S. had at least one foreign-born parent
  • 3% were foreign-born children with at least one foreign-born parent

In 2013:

  • 22% of school-aged children spoke a language other than English
  • 5% spoke a language other than English at home and had difficulty speaking English

The ethnic and racial diversity in children is partly attributed to the fact that 1 in 5 children born in the United States. have at least one foreign-born parent; and 1 in 5 school-aged children speak languages other than English.
